St. Martha's Construction Up-date ...... June 2010
In early March 2010, Msgr. Borski signed our interim construction loan with Sterling Bank. With this loan in place, St. Martha’s was able to give our contractor, JEDunn, the signal to go “full steam ahead” on our new church, administration building and rectory. It is starting to get exciting at the new site with our project.
The Liturgical Design Committee has been working with many different artists and craftsmen to complete the interior of our church. The pews, with long anticipated kneelers, have been selected and ordered. The bell for the new bell tower has been ordered as well. The finishes for the wall within the church have also been chosen. The materials for the interior range from marble, Texas limestone, Venetian plaster and acoustical finishes enhancing sound in the church. The pews, and other items within the church, will be made of mahogany. Mr. Kenneth Griesemer from Arizona has been selected as the designer for most of the interior. The baptismal font will be octagonal, constructed of limestone and marble, with an upper bowl from which baptismal waters will flow. The baptismal font can accommodate immersion baptisms, as well as the traditional pouring of water on the heads of infants. The water can be accessed by adults and children as they enter the front of the church.
The artist who will be sculpting the statues of Mary, Joseph, Martha, Mary, Lazarus and Jesus has also been selected. He has designed the Crucifix which will hang behind the altar and the Stations of the Cross. As the final sketches are submitted, we will be sharing them with parishioners. One of our own parishioners, Donna Rueby, is designing and working with the stained glass company that will be making our rose windows.
On the construction front, the contractor has completed site and building pad preparations for construction of the Church building foundation. The Church building piers are completed. The installation of water and sewer lines and foundation grade beams for placement of the building slab will soon begin. Site preparation for the administration building to the west of the Church building is now complete. The building pad is also complete, and the installation of piers for the building slab is in progress. Electrical service to the site has been completed.
The Archdiocesan Building and Planning Committee has approved the rectory building plans. With this approval, final design can now begin. Once the final design is completed, quotes will be solicited from approved contractors. It will be late summer before construction will begin on the rectory.
As of the end of February, we have collected $4.5 million toward our pledges of $7.9 million. We still need to make progress in this area, but as a community of faith we can achieve our goal. If you have not yet made your pledge to “Honoring our Past – Envisioning our Future,” there are pledge envelopes in the back of the church. If you would like to have additional information on our project, please feel free to call the church office (281-358-6637), and someone from the Capital Campaign Committee will call you to answer any questions.
